Astro's Journey to America!
OBG goes International! Last month, a fellow rescuer in Egypt contacted OBG asking if we could help 6.5-year-old Astro. He had once been a beloved family member who lived indoors and slept in the bed at night. Unfortunately, he developed terrible skin and ear infections that his owners could not get successfully treated in Egypt where access to veterinary care that we take for granted does not exist. The fungal infection had gotten so bad his owners moved him outside to live and with the recent arrival of a new baby and a change in priorities, Astro was facing a shelter farm or worse, euthanization! That's when his Cocker Angel, Sally A., stepped in and offered to raise the funds to re-home him to America. His family was very sad to let him go, but they knew this was the best chance for him to live a happy and healthy life.
Astro arrived to Dulles International Airport on Wednesday evening to an OBG welcoming committee. We thank Catherine F., for escorting Astro on the long flight from Egypt. OBG volunteer, Peter G., then uber'd him to our intake vet where another OBG team cheered his arrival. Astro is suffering from severe skin and ear infections and tips the scales at 49.5 pounds (he has a large frame, but is probably 10 pounds overweight). We expect his medical expenses to exceed $2000. Would you please consider a donation to his care? Click here to donate!
Astro's life has been turned upside down, but throughout it all, he has remained super sweet. He is an active pup and LOVES to play fetch so we can't wait to get him well and find him a forever family.
Thank you on behalf of Astro! Stay tuned for updates on our international arrival!
